in Pune City, India
Pune’s growing population and increasing urbanisation make it necessary to implement comprehensive plans to address rising temperatures, water scarcity, air quality issues, and the effects on agriculture and biodiversity. Three key sections of climate action framed the workshop’s design: Adaptation (immediate responses to ecosystem impacts), Mitigation (concentrating on local energy use, renewable energy, and sustainable transport) and Resilience (integrating disaster resilience, circular economy processes, and cross-cutting policy themes).
The discussions for each theme covered important issues related to Pune’s answers, difficulties, institutional partnerships, lessons learned from the past, and the consequences for marginalised groups. This methodical approach sought to address the many issues raised by Pune’s changing climate comprehensively.
The workshop on “Local Action for Climate Change in Pune City” was very insightful, and it brought stakeholders together to discuss Pune’s pressing climate issues. The event emphasised integrating climate policies into urban planning, fostering discussions on Adaptation, Mitigation, and Resilience. Among the recommendations a holistic approach to climate change, riparian zone management, sustainable development, integration of renewable energy sources, and community involvement. The workshop’s conclusions highlight the necessity for Pune to embrace a climate-centric approach in city planning, ensuring that sustainable technologies and community voices are integrated. The success of these initiatives depends on collaborative efforts and a commitment to holistic strategies, paving the way for a resilient and climate-ready future for Pune.
