"Identify the patterns of local action associated with international climate change commitments in ordinary cities and the impacts of such action."

The research in WP3 helped describe a rich and diverse landscape of climate action. First, the team developed a monograph charting the state of just-inspired action for urban sustainability (Output 3.9).

Next, the team developed a database of initiatives and selected key case studies. Insights from China, Brazil and Spain have been developed in a series of outputs (outputs 3.1 to 3.8). In addition, the work led to inform the activity of the PI as a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (Output 5.3). Read comparatively, the cases are helping to develop an emerging theory of innovation from below and attached to life experiences, what we call "mundane innovation". A monograph on the topic will be forthcoming in 2025 (Output 4.10), but an initial sketch of it was included in the 2024 Un-Habitat World Cities Report (Output 5.2).
