Methodological innovations

OBJECTIVE – Reimagine current theorisations of climate change politics and urban governance with a conceptual and methodological toolbox that engages with messiness, unusual spaces, and change in the making.

The project has engaged with new theorisations of messiness in governance.
First, the project conceptualised the dimensions of messiness in relation to ideas of government rationality (Output 4.1).

Second, the project has engaged with the limits of transitions and transformation thinking, elaborating a critique of the notion of transformation as an 'Ivy theory' (Output 4.2).

Third, the project has developed ideas of reparation in urban climate governance (Outputs 4.3 and 4.4). Finally, the project revisited the notion of the unknowable in urban life (Output 4.5).
